Ancient Refuge: Reviving the Land and the Soul

Parallel Love

With all that is happening in the world lately, it’s easy to become consumed by the consciousness of fear. We run in circles seeking safety, looking for something to “defend” us from death. But this does nothing to ease the fear of those actually living in war zones. And it doesn’t mean we must define ourselves by the threat to life around us.

The truth is, all over the world, there are millions of loving and compassionate people who do not want to live in a world of war. We long to lay down our weapons and see each other’s divinity beyond the madness. The real question is: who will we choose to be in the face of others’ aggression and ideological pain?

I grew up a Christian, and I still consider myself one today. But over time, I followed the Way out of the Church. On that journey, I discovered a deeper love than I ever imagined—one that sees me beyond my appearance or history and recognizes me as whole, as a divine child. For me, this love is the great mystery. It is an energy of compassion that silences my thoughts and feeds me straight from its bosom—a place of boundless, ever-flowing love.

This love gives us the strength to walk among bullets and shrapnel—not because we are fearless, but because something greater calls us. Both internal and external wars reveal the condition of our souls. Yet no external resolution can truly satisfy—not power, not dominion, not privilege.

Jesus once said that none shall enter the kingdom of heaven unless they become like a child. A child without bias. Without the need to control everything and everyone. A child resting in trust—in the arms of a loving parent. This process can feel terrifying. People may judge you. They may say you were born wrong. But what matters is becoming the person within you who allows you to love with abandon.

What is love?

Jesus tells us:

“Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.”
(1 Corinthians 13:4–8)

Agape love—the kind that loves us no matter how deep our darkness or trauma—that is God. That is hope. That is freedom. That is compassion.

“And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”
(John 1:5)

Creation became lost in her own darkness—not because she did something wrong, but as a symptom of her condition. Over the eons, she has stretched and groaned beneath the weight of her children’s pain. She longs for the day they will see her as something to be cherished, not dominated.

“For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.”
(Romans 8:19)

The children of God are those who embody the love that Christ shared during his time on Earth.

As it is written in Revelation 21:

1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.
2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.
3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.
4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life.
7 He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son.”

You may ask: What is the New Earth and the New Heaven?
To me, it is the expression of Love—of Jesus Christ—over all that exists, including everything within us.

We are blessed. And we are endlessly loved.
